        We’re looking for aggressive, digitally savvy journalists in one of America’s best news markets. We are a Pulitzer-winning newsroom that values watchdog journalism, splendid writing, diversity and creativity. We’re looking for journalists with a record of enterprise, a flair for words, an ear for a tale, a hunger for public records and the spirit to keep pushing when someone says “no.” A little attitude won’t hurt you; complacency will.

        Below are open positions in our newsroom, with instructions to apply. No phone calls, please.

        Investigative reporter

        We’re looking for an investigative reporter to join our project team.

        Candidates should be self-starters and strong idea-generators who can consistently deliver thorough reporting and stellar writing. They should be as comfortable working independently as they are collaborating on team projects.

        Successful applicants should have a proven ability to:

        * Generate highly relevant, innovative project ideas.

        * Develop human sources long term and on the fly.

        * Resourcefully use public records.

        * Crunch data on a basic level, with an aptitude to grow those skills further.

        * Deliver bulletproof, seamless reads.

        * Think beyond the traditional narrative and work closely with our interactive and visual teams for high-impact multimedia storytelling.

        * Hold power to account without fear or favor.

        Our team is committed to high-impact journalism and we’ve won the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service twice in the past decade. We are hungry to continue that level of work, but we don’t want to do it the same way we’ve always done. We are eager to innovate, and we welcome the new ideas our new colleague will bring.

        If you think that might be you, apply to Managing Editor Dana Banker at dbanker@sunsentinel.com. Proposals should include a cover letter, resume, examples of past investigative work, and at least three project ideas with a summary of why the story is important, what it would take to get it, and potential obstacles and results.

        Data Intern

        We’re looking for an intern with exceptional data skills to work with our investigative team.

        This job is for a digger who can find and analyze data. We’re looking for a journalist with the curiosity to find the stories that data can tell and to work alongside our top reporters on our biggest projects.

        The successful applicant will have a solid foundation in computer assisted reporting skills and an eagerness to grow. Applicants should have strong skills with Excel, pivot tables, formulas and scripts. A basic understanding of Python is preferred.

        We don’t expect you to be an expert, but we do expect you to be hungry to learn -- and we will help you.

        If you think you have what it takes, please apply to Managing Editor Dana Banker at dbanker@sunsentinel.com. Please send a resume, work samples and a letter outlining your interest and your data experience.

        Watchdog Reporter

        The South Florida Sun Sentinel seeks an aggressive watchdog reporter with a record of holding people and institutions accountable.

        You should be curious, suspicious and determined to get results. We want someone with a proven ability to pick apart documents and unearth secrets, going beyond the routine process of government. Competition is fierce here in South Florida, so our journalists must be quick to meet the needs of a growing digital audience. If that’s you, come join our Pulitzer-winning staff in an intensely competitive news market.

        Send your resume and best watchdog clips to Metro Editor Randy Roguski, rroguski@sunsentinel.com.
